Who We Are
The Rotary Club of Clayton Valley/Concord Sunrise is located 30 miles east of San Francisco in Northern California and consists of about 55 members. We meet each Thursday at the Oakhurst Country Club for 7 am breakfast, 1001 Peacock Creek Dr, Clayton. Clayton Valley Rotary is part of a worldwide organization of more than 33,000 Rotary clubs in 168 countries around the world. Rotary is an important non-governmental, non-religious, non-political service organization serving humanitarian goals in the world.
More than 1.2 million business and professional men and women make up the membership of these clubs. We provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and build good will and peace throughout the world. The Rotary motto, "Service Above Self" encompasses what we are all about. We give our time and effort to help others through service in our local communities. We also assist in projects throughout the world by supporting Rotary International, our parent organization.
We invite you to visit us, join in the fellowship and support our community and world wide service activities.
What Do We Do
The Rotary Club of Clayton Valley/Concord Sunrise was chartered in May 1987 and locally serves Clayton and the Clayton Valley area of Concord. The club is involved in many projects around the world but has some projects that are important in the local community too.
- Adopt-A-Family Program
- Our club supports several needy families with gifts and food items for the Christmas holidays.
- Camp Royal (youth leadership)
- Camp Royal is located in the Trinity Alps near Hayfork, CA. It is a week long, summer camp, leadership training experience for juniors (to be seniors) high school students. It invites several motivational speakers and community leaders to speak and teach during the week. Speakers are flown in and out of the Hayfork airport by volunteer Rotarian pilots.
- Camp Venture (business/entrepreneurship)
- Camp Venture is a 4 day, summer camp, entrepreneur experience for juniors (to be seniors) high school students. It is designed to help teach the students how to run their own businesses after graduation. It is held at a Bay Area educational facility.
- Clayton Library Foundation
- Each week the regular speakers at our club sign and donate a book that is donated to the Clayton Library in lieu of a speaker's gift. The club provides the books at the direction of the Clayton Librarian then completes the process by giving the book to the library.
- Clayton Valley High School Women's Ensemble
- This musical group comes to our club to perform during the holidays and the club is happy to provide a donation in return.
- Dictionary Project (dictionaries provided to local 3rd graders)
- This is a major project for our club. We provide a hard cover, quality, dictionary to 3rd graders in several schools in the area. This book retails for $20 and is part of the Rotary Literacy Program. (This program can always use some help to expand it.)
- Contra Costa County Food Bank
- We donate both food, from food barrels, and money from our club here that goes to help several other organizations in the county.
- Junior Optimist Baseball League
- We donate money to the league and they provide surplus or out dated equipment and uniforms that we in turn donate to our Twin Club project in San Felipe, Mexico.
- Local Park Programs and Improvements
- Markham Park, Concord, is a 4 year old environmental project where we are helping to restore the plants and the grounds in the gardens of the park. This is both a project we donate money and labor too.
- Adopt a Street, Concord; our club is responsible for the litter pick up, quarterly, on Clayton Road from Ayers to Ygnacio Valley Road. This is a project we provide our labor for.
- Clayton Trail clean up has been one of our projects that is currently on hold pending coordination with the City of Clayton for signage.
- Rotary International Polio Eradication Program
- The Clayton Valley club has been donating to The Rotary Foundation since its beginning, 1987, for the eradication for Polio, worldwide. Each member has pledged to donate as least $100 a year and so far has donated over $130,000. Polio should be wiped out worldwide during Rotary's 100th anniversary in 2005.
- We Care Center
- Has been a project of one type or another for many years. We have provided everything from diapers, school supplies to playground equipment. We are currently completing on a Rotary community grant of $5000 for the restoration of a classroom in the complex.
- International Vision Volunteers
- Support of a Rotarian run Eye Hospital in Zambia treating thousands of eye patients annually.
- Nigerian Medical Mission
- International support of medical facilities in rural Nigeria.
